Goal 2010

As the year draws to a close, it's time for me to set my goals and visions for the year 2010 so that I have a clear path and direction to take.

My goals for 2009 are here:
http://wealthbuch.blogspot.com/2009/08/personal-goals.html

Completion Report:

1) Goal of matching my full-time engineer (fresh grad) pay with my tuition income
Goal achieved.

2) Goal of reaching $100k net investments (exclude unrealised gains/losses) by end 2009
Goal achieved. However, might pare down some holdings.

3) Goal of achieving $1k average dividends per month, i.e. $12k dividends a year
Halfway there. Reached about $460 average now. Thinking if I should keep Singtel in dividends or trading basket. And thinking if Starhill is still good.

4) Goal of setting up ExamWorld to a super big site to help more students
Started on it again recently.

In my quest to achieve (2) and (3), I'm left with quite little emergency funds actually. According to traditional financial planning, this isn't that good. A good gauge would be to have at least 2 months emergency funds. Although I plan to survive on dividends which will increase my cashflow, I still feel my current financial emergency funds is quite low... There's a need to take into account this.

Going forward into 2010, these are my new goals.

1) Goal of achieving $1k average dividends per month, i.e. $12k dividends a year
Brought along from 2009

2) Goal of setting up ExamWorld to a super big site to help more students
Brought along from 2009

3) Goal of achieving at least USD$20 per month in adsense income.
Only about USD$5 per month now. That means, I need to build up my traffic.

4) Writing my own notes for my tuition students, and eventually be able to publish and sell to the different schools in Singapore
Have to see how this goes. I really hope this succeeds. Eventually, I might just become my own publisher :)

5) Goal of reaching $200k networth in equities and MMF
It's time to move on the 2nd $100k after the 1st.

I'm considering some other goals, but for the moment, I shall stick to these five.
Ganbatte to myself!

I too have a similar goal (no. 4) and I must admit it is not easy. My site has been around for a few years and I still have not achieve the target that I set myself to. I really hope that this is the year where I can achieve my target.

Feel free to buzz me ya.

how do you define net investments (or did you mean networth) excluding unrealised gains/losses ?

was pondering over that very statement till too many interpretations came to mind :)

  5. Hi Bjsu70,

yup, I meant net investments excluding unrealised gains/losses, but including funds in money market fund. Dividends are to me realised gains.
